A neuropsychological evaluation is an assessment of brain functioning and thinking skills. This type of evaluation is highly sensitive to subtle difficulties in attention, processing speed, decision-making, language, visuospatial skills, and learning and memory. A complete evaluation generally takes between four-to-six hours to complete, but can take up to eight hours, depending on the complexity of the issues to be addressed by the evaluation and the patient’s condition. Occasionally, it is necessary to complete the evaluation over two or more sessions.

Results of a neuropsychological evaluation provide diagnostic clarity, describe cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations tailored to individuals’ unique personality and neurocognitive profile. This information is detailed in a confidential written report and can also be discussed during a separate feedback session.

Conditions that are typically evaluated include:

Attention Deficit Disorder

Learning Disability

Mild Cognitive Impairment

Cerebrovascular Disease

Stroke

Dementia

Seizure Disorders or Epilepsy

Parkinson’s Disease

Neuromuscular Disorders

Brain Tumor

Hydrocephalus

Concussion
